an entry from Papere...
While heading to Cashiers from CBL last Thursday, with "T" in the rear seat, I was going through what each button, switch, lever and light on the dash of my Volvo. The wonder of little boys! Then "T" asked about a small button on the top of the dash and when I finally learned what he was asking about, while driving west on two-lane portion of NC 64, I realized it was the small flashing red light that is illuminated when the vehicle alarm is set.
"So why would anyone break into your car, PaPere?"
"You know, sometimes a person may want to steal something they see you have left in your car while you are in your office or in the grocery store, T."
"Well . . . you know the reason a person would do that sort of thing, PaPere? It's because they don't have Jesus in their heart!"
"Well, I think you are certainly right in your observation, "T"!" Then, about a half-mile west, "T" continued, "You know, when they would get caught and have to go to jail, they would have plenty of time to think about what they stole from your car and hopefully, after a long time of thinking about it, they would have Jesus come into their hearts too!"
Again, my response to his insights, "You are on-the-money again, "T"!"
"You know, then they might ever get a job after they are out of jail as a policeman, or a fireman and help other people since they would have Jesus in their heart now."
While I cannot remember the Child Psychology class at Guilford College about the moral compass of young children, this was of interest to me as we enjoyed some time together in transit to Cashiers for several days. This is a nice piece to consider in this regard with a quick look on Google this morning, http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/child-myths/200911/learning-right-wrong-how-does-morality-develop.
