Three of the Joneses plus Herbie braved the rain and cold temperatures yesterday morning to participate in the Biltmore Kiwanis 5K on the Biltmore Estate. (William has a sleepover with Anna and so as to spend the morning with her and Nay-Nay.) We each achieved our goals and along the way set personal records (PRs).
Thompson 29:17- 89th overall (318 participants); 2nd place in the Under 15 male category
Bobby 24:26 - 31st overall; 4th place M35-39
Avery 29:19 - 91st overall; 6th place F35-39
Herb 29:50 - 106 overall; 7th place M40-44

CYMBL Race #2
CYMBL's second race for the Spring season took us to Camp High Rocks last Saturday. The course, 0.8 mile in length, was spectator-friendly with climbs and rolling single track. I think the toughest part for the riders was the steady climb that concluded each lap and started the subsequent lap. Thompson's age group had to complete four laps. Donning the new Team Training Wheels jersey, Thompson finished in 5th place.

Nesting - Take 2
Look at what we discovered on our back porch! It appears Momma Robin loves this spot so much she rebuilt a nest...and has graced it with 4 eggs.

CYMBL Spring Series Race #1
The Carolina Youth Mountain Bike League (CYMBL) that Thompson has participated in the past few years continues to evolve. This year they have introduced a 3-race spring Series and will reduce the Fall Series to 3 races as well. This Spring Series takes us to three new venues, the first being yesterday at Camp Grier in Old Fort. This cross-country race was a technical and challenging course, and according to the Race Director, probably the hardest one of the Spring Series. But that didn't seem to bother any of the kids. Everyone rode well and had fun! Thompson finished 7th out of the 13 boys in the 9-10 year old division with a time of 23:46.
Teams Fire and Portugal
The boys are playing soccer this spring and having a great time doing so! William is playing on Team Fire and Thompson is on Team Portugal. The over-arching goal is to have fun, and William reminds us of the three rules: have fun, be safe, no hands. In William's league (3-4 year old), they practice for 20-25 minutes then play a 20 minute 4-on-4 game with no goalies on a small field with tiny goals. And William has become quite the scorer, although they don't keep track of scores. Thompson's league (9-10) practices one after noon a week with a 40-minute game on Saturdays. In this age division, they play 6-on-6 plus goalies on a larger field with larger goals. The highlight for this weekend's Team Portugal took their first win of the season yesterday with a 3-2 win over the team that beat them last week.

3-9
En route home from a week at the beach, Thompson (and William) decided to implement an idea from Doug and Linda Mabe.
We got a few takers, and while perhaps a bit embarrassing, the true laughter that filled our car was worth it all!
