Du the Asheville Du - Take 2

Bobby, Herb and I fielded a 3-person team in the 2nd annual Du the Asheville Du on the Biltmore Estate this morning.  Our goal...first place, of course.  But most importantly, to improve on our times from last year.  Crossing the finish line this year, we shaved off 9:02 minutes and finished 2nd, 1:04 minutes behind the winning team.
This was the first year they offered a modified race for intermediate and advanced kids.  Thompson was one of three young boys who accepted the challenge.  They ran the first 5K and then completed the same 10-mile bike course as the adults.  Recognizing this would more than likely be his most difficult race to-date, we reminded him the goals were to have fund, pace himself and cross the finish line.  And he did just that, taking 2nd place!

Soccer Goals

Both boys started the fall season of YMCA soccer this morning...and both were fortunate to score a goal.  William's team, Team USA, lost 5-1, with William scoring his goal in the final seconds.  Thompson's team, Team Germany, won 2-1, with Thompson scoring his first-ever goal.  In reflecting on his goal, he told us several time that he "almost cried".  Super proud of both boys as we continually remind them to have fun and give it their best.

Bookwalter Youth Ride

Brent Bookwalter, who is a member of BMC's professional cycling team and Asheville resident (when he's not travelling), volunteered his time again this fall to ride with our youth bike club.  I'm not sure who had more fun - the kids or Brent.  Riding with youth will remind you of the pure joy that exists for them simply being on their bikes.
