LPC Tri and CKMS Splash and Dash

Rain doesn't keep "serious athletes" from racing.  We spent the better part of the morning trying to find creative ways to stay dry while Bobby and Herb participated in the LPC Triathlon Fletcher.  At the conclusion of the adult race, Thompson participated in the final race of the Carolina Kids Multisport Series.
The triathlon was a 200-yard pool swim, 17.5 mile bike ride and 5K run.  Bobby placed 2nd in the men's 35-39 division with a time of 1:27:22 (3:54 swim - 0:59 T1 - 57:35 bike - 0:39 T2 - 24:17 run). Overall, he placed 20th out of 75 participants.  (16th of the 47 men)
We are super proud of Herb as this was his first tri! (He had been secretly - at least to Bobby - been taking swim lessons in recent months to help him developing more confidence in the water.).  Herb finished with a total time of 1:40:34 (5:42 swim - 1:32 T1 - 58:51 bike - 1:08 T2 - 33:22 run) placing 45th overall.  (35th of the 47 men) Woohoo!

Both Bobby and Herb had minor glitches on the ride - Bobby's chain came off twice and Herb rode on a flat the last 1.5 miles.
Thompson participated in the intermediate division (mostly 10-12 year olds), which was a 100-yard swim and 1.5 mile run. They started the young racers in pairs, with Thompson in the first pair.  I'll admit - I was certain he'd get passed in the water; however, he held his own and began to increase his distance during the 2nd and 3rd 25-yard laps.  While he lost a bit of steam in the final 25 yard, he was still first out of the water.  The next time we saw Thompson was about half-way through the run...and he was in 2nd! (I expected him to loose several positions in the run to the older boys, but I was wrong!)  He kept close to his competitor, passing him once, but couldn't quite hold on.  In the end, given the staggered start times, Thompson placed 3rd.  Awesome!
